The guild holds a monopoly on both star travel and banking. Guild ships have no real-space engines, they are simply a cargo hull and the space folding engine. They are piloted by superevolved human beings that use the prescient powers of the spice to plot faster than light paths for the ship that avoid collisions with stars.
Heighliners are huge, and are neutral territory. The navies of whole noble houses can sit side by side on the forecourt and will not attack eachother for fear of being blacklisted by the Guild.

Charon the ferryman of the dead required a coin from his passengers. Corpses were buried with such coins under their tongues.
